ABOUT US

BACKGROUND

Australia Bhutan Association of Canberra (ABAC) was established on the 4th of July, 2011 as a not-for-profit community organisation dedicated to serving the Bhutanese community in Canberra. It was incorporated as an association in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). ABAC is operated by community volunteers who are elected annually as Executive Committee members. ABAC plays a pivotal role in organizing and managing community engagement activities. This includes hosting significant Bhutanese national and cultural events within the ACT.

OUR MISSION

ABAC’s mission is to foster a united and inclusive Bhutanese community in Canberra that promotes welfare, harmony, and mutual understanding among the Bhutanese community in Canberra through preservation and promotion of Bhutan’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage and participation in multicultural activities and events in the ACT.

We foster a platform for Bhutanese individuals in Canberra to connect with one another and build meaningful relationships with other communities in the region. The association is guided by several core objectives outlined in its Constitution as follows:

ABAC is committed to promoting harmony, unity, and mutual understanding within the Bhutanese community and between the Bhutanese community and the broader Australian and multicultural communities in the ACT. The association aims to achieve this through initiatives that encourage dialogue, cooperation, and collaboration

ABAC actively promotes the involvement of the Bhutanese community in multicultural activities and events in the ACT and the neighbouring regions. By showcasing Bhutanese culture to the wider community, the association provides opportunities for cultural exchange, fostering a deeper understanding between different multicultural groups in the ACT

The welfare of the Bhutanese community is a top priority for ABAC. The association works diligently to identify and address the needs of community members, offering support and resources where needed. ABAC also serves as a crucial link between the Royal Bhutanese Embassy and the Bhutanese community in Canberra, collaborating closely to ensure the well-being of its members

The association’s fourth object is to preserve and promote the unique Bhutanese spiritual and cultural heritage

ABAC seeks to build friendships and collaborative relationships with Bhutanese communities across Australia. By promoting cultural exchange and working with other community organisations, ABAC aims to strengthen ties between Bhutanese communities nationwide
